In this category, our objective and therefore solutions are driven by the reality that in a lot (not all – but, a lot) of Recruitment businesses three observations can be made.

1) It is common to promote your longest standing team member to “Team leader” by default. (In military circles this is called “battlefield commission” and is both logical and necessary, and indeed helps without question in matters of survival – but we are in a “War for Talent” not “Battle for Talent”.)

2) Not all Senior Consultants want to be Team Leaders. They may see the investment of time required to train / mentor a junior Consultant as affecting their ability to bill, “not enough hours in a day syndrome”. (They see this – because without training in Leadership and structure / tools to manage people – there aren’t!)

3) Lets be honest with our industry, the vast majority of mid to senior Recruitment Companies globally today have not (yet) invested in management programmes. Not all, not all – but the majority I fear. Programmes to increase revenue and Increase Brand Awareness etc yes, and even if you have, the Team Leader you have just hired may not have been through a Management School.
